Abstract

In 2005–2006, there was created the Far Eastern regional academical telecommunicational network which joins most of scientific institutions of Far Eastern Branch RAS. The frame of the network and regional infrastructures are constructed on the base of modern technologies of information transmission using ground and satellite communication channels, fiber-optic channels, wireless optic technologies, up-to-date standards of data transmission through copper lines. In Khabarovsk, the network of FEB RAS is integrated into RBNet, the interdepartmental Network providing creation of integrated information space for science and education of Russian Federation as well as into the International GLORIAD Network for science and education, global high-speed informational telecommunicational system with ring topology, through two channels with the general capacity of 18 Mbit s-1. The telecommunicational structures of the Far Eastern Branch research institutes concerned with geoscience. The Corporate Network of FEB RAS is integrated with the telecommunicational infrastructures of Geophysical Survey RAS in cities of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, carrying out seismic monitoring in the area of the Russian Far East. The Network of FEB RAS gives its own customers all main network services and information resources. A significant resources of the Network are the Far Eastern Computing Resource Center located at the Institute for Automation and Control Processes FEB RAS and the Computing Cluster of the Computing Center FEB RAS. In the Network of FEB RAS the videoconference system has been launched since 2006. The System of videoconference connection of FEB RAS offers to geologists of the Russian Far East opportunity to take part in virtual geological conferences as well as to see and communicate each other, to exchange data and jointly process them in real time regime. At present time the Network of FEB RAS contains geographically dispersed information resources on geology of Far Eastern region: electronic libraries, database and GIS, electronic catalogues, videoobservations over dynamic objects and etc., which are currently being developed to implement the above strategy.
