On the strategy of monitoring hydrophysical fields in the ocean

Abstract

Informative data fluxes are evaluated, a procedure that is necessary for monitoring the variability of the whole structure of hydrophysical fields in the ocean, including the minimum ones controlled by molecular effects. Since assimilation of these fluxes by means of available data acquisition systems is unrealistic, a technique of "embedded scales'' is proposed. This phrase implies the monitoring of a finite number of aquatic areas, conducting in them observations of different durations and discreteness within the limits of individual space-time windows of investigated fields.
